Behind The Reel - Rise of the Planet of the Apes

Rise of the Planet of the Apes has completely surpassed all of my previous expectations. The only movie that has beat this movie in stunning visual effects and incredible acting is Hugo, but that is a review for another time. At first glance, this movie did not look to impress. I saw it as just another continuation to a franchise long since tarnished with reboots and year of development hell, but as soon as the first 15 min. passed, i knew i was in for a treat. the movie starts off with a usual premise, a scientist who goes too far in his research and creates something that should not have been created and since it was James Franco who was one of the leads, i expected nothing better of the sort. But when i saw the beginning, i was giddy. His work in this movie surpasses the POS work in Spider Man 3. He actually brought life to his character and made us feel his joy and his pain. After a while the aforementioned "ape" comes in to play. I expected a great role from him since he is played by Andy Serkis, a renowned actor know famously for his role as Smegol/Gollum in the Lord of the Rings trilogy and i was not disappointed. He brought "Caesar" to a realm beyond what any other could. As the story progressed, i found my self enraptured in the whole movie. With barely any dialogue from "Caesar", there was still a level of understanding that words alone could not describe. By the end of the third act, i found myself glad for Caesar yet slightly frighted due to the realism of this whole situation. When the end credit started to roll, i felt a thrill by the whole event. I came in expecting a another bland remake and i came out waiting for another sequel. With excellent acting and stunning visual effects, i have to rate this movie a 10/10.
